Top Pre-Wedding Shoot Locations in Vizag: A Photographer's Guide for 2026

Vizag doesn't get talked about as much as Goa or Udaipur for pre-wedding shoots, but it should — it's one of the few Indian cities where you can shoot a beach sunrise, a hilltop sunset, and genuine hill-station scenery within a couple of hours of each other. We're a Chennai-based photography studio, with teams also in Bangalore and Coimbatore, and Vizag is one of the destination cities we travel to for pre-wedding shoots and weddings — there's no OOAK studio here, just a crew that flies or drives in, scouts the light and the logistics ahead of time, and shoots the city properly.

Why Vizag works for a pre-wedding shoot

Most Indian coastal cities give you one kind of backdrop. Vizag gives you three within a short drive: open sea and a working beach promenade, a hill park with a ropeway and city views, and — if a couple has a spare day — proper Eastern Ghats scenery out on the Araku route. That range is what makes the travel worth it, rather than sea alone.

The locations, one by one

Here's what each spot is actually like to shoot, not just what it looks like in a postcard.

Rushikonda Beach

The most reliable of the city's beaches for photography — wide, clean sand, and less clutter from fishing boats than RK Beach. It doubles as Vizag's adventure-sports beach, so there's often paragliding or jet-skis in the background if you want that energy in a frame. Shoot it early: by mid-morning on a weekend it fills up with tourists and beach-shack traffic.

RK Beach and the Beach Road promenade

Ramakrishna Beach is the city's main beach and the easiest to reach if you're staying centrally. The promenade runs past the INS Kursura submarine museum, which gives you a mix of skyline and sea in the same frame. It's also the most crowded of the beaches, especially in the evening when locals come out for a walk — another reason sunrise works better here, both for the light and for having the beach mostly to yourselves.

Kailasagiri

A hilltop park reachable by road or by the ropeway, with views over the city, the harbour, and the coastline. This is where we'd point a couple for golden-hour and sunset shots — the hill faces the right direction for it, and the gardens and viewpoints give you a completely different look from the beach shots earlier in the day. It draws families and the ropeway queue can eat into shoot time, so we plan around that rather than fight it.

Yarada Beach

South of the main city, past a stretch of hilly road, and noticeably quieter than RK Beach or Rushikonda — the pick for couples who want a calmer, less staged feel to their shoot. Worth knowing: Vizag has a significant naval and port presence, and some routes and viewpoints near the coast fall under restricted or permission-required zones. We check what's actually accessible before the shoot date rather than assume.

Araku Valley, if you have an extra day

Araku is roughly a three-hour drive — or a scenic train ride past Borra Caves — from the city, up into the Eastern Ghats: coffee plantations, mist, waterfalls, a genuinely different palette from the coast. It's not a same-day add-on to a Vizag shoot; treat it as its own day, ideally with an overnight, if you want both looks.

Timing: season and time of day

November through February is the sensible window — humidity drops, the sea haze clears, and you get workable light without fighting monsoon rain. June through September is the southwest monsoon and genuinely unreliable for an outdoor shoot. Within a shoot day, we work the beaches at sunrise and Kailasagiri toward sunset, with a break through the harsh midday hours rather than shooting through them — less a rule than a reflection of how the light actually behaves here.

How a destination shoot works with us

To be upfront about it: OOAK doesn't have an office or a resident team in Vizag. We're based out of Chennai, with teams in Bangalore and Coimbatore, and Vizag is a destination city we travel to for weddings and pre-wedding shoots. In practice, that means we lock the shoot date and locations in advance, scout access ahead of time — especially around the port and naval-restricted stretches — and travel in as a full crew rather than subcontracting to someone local. Travel and stay for the team are worked out separately once we know your dates and locations, rather than guessed at here.

What it costs

A standalone pre-wedding shoot starts at Rs.25,000+ as an add-on. If you're also booking us for the wedding day, it's worth knowing how that fits into our regular packages:

Drone coverage — useful at Kailasagiri and along the coast, where permitted — is Rs.15,000+ on its own if you're not on the Luxury package. These figures are indicative; the final number depends on your exact locations, shoot duration, and travel logistics, which we work out on a call before quoting anything final.

Questions couples usually ask

Do we need permission to shoot at these locations?

Public beaches and Kailasagiri don't need special permits for a couple with a photographer and no large crew or equipment. Drone use is the exception — parts of Vizag sit close to naval and port installations, so drone photography isn't guaranteed everywhere, and we confirm what's flyable before the shoot rather than after.

How many locations can we realistically cover in one day?

Two, well. One sunrise location and one sunset location, with time in between to change outfits and rest rather than rush. Cramming in three spots usually means less time at each and more time stuck in transit.

What should we wear?

Match the outfit to the location rather than the other way round — lighter, breathable fabrics for the beach given the humidity, and something with more structure for Kailasagiri if you want the hill and skyline shots to hold up. We talk through outfit choices on the planning call.

How far ahead should we book?

For peak season, November to February, a few months' notice helps — mainly so we can plan the travel dates and lock in the right sunrise and sunset slots instead of shooting whatever's left over.
